Overview
In my internship, I helped out with various projects such as benchmarking and checking data, alongside learning about the insurance industry and what Aon does. I also got to develop my skills in the software I was using, some of which was familiar and some of which was completely new. I worked with both other actuaries and brokers to complete projects with and for them. I also completed an internship project as part of a small group of interns.
Skills
I have improved my skills with Excel, as well as learning how to use software that is exclusive to Aon to create models. I have developed my leadership and communication skills when working on my internship project, as well as improving my skills and confidence when giving presentations.
Responsibilities
After being shown how to do specific tasks, I was mostly left to work independently, with the option of asking for help when I needed it. I was given tasks to complete as part of the team of actuaries, and was trusted to work with them on projects, with my work being peer reviewed when I finished or asked for assistance.
Support & Guidance
There were always people I could go to for help, and throughout my internship people were willing to sit down and teach me what I needed to know. I also had catch-ups with my manager and other team members throughout so if I needed additional guidance I was always able to ask for it.
Culture
Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and made a really pleasant environment to work in. I found I got on really well with both other interns and full-time employees. I was also invited to several socials and lunches, which meant I could get to know people outside of work.
Your Impressions
I loved my internship, and am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to do it. It was great to get workplace experience, and I genuinely enjoyed my time there
Yes
Try and get involved with as much as you can, and don't be afraid to reach out to people. People will be very happy to chat in the office, or over a coffee or lunch, and it's a great way to get to know different people and different parts of the business.
