Overview
Initial weeks consisted of training courses through Arcadis before starting a project building an equipment catalogue for engineers to use. After a few weeks this was completed so I spent my spare time undertaking a python training course. Later weeks I have been building an app on VIKTOR to create earthing documentation quickly.
Skills
I have spent a few weeks learning python programming language in depth as a continuation from what I have studied at university. I've improved my skills on Microsoft Excel which has been useful. Otherwise I have learnt important industry skills and understanding as to how typical engineers operate as well as office ettiquete
Responsibilities
I was granted access to private company folders containing client information aswell as financial data. Therefore I feel I was trusted with this. In terms of work I feel I was not brought into real-life projects but more developing time-saving methods for existing company engineers.
Support & Guidance
Unfortunately my line manager has been very busy in recent weeks so I have been unable to contact and review my project completion. Early weeks I was in constant contact. My mentor provided excellent support and guidence during my time with the company and has taught me a majority of skills I have learnt during my time here.
Culture
Relevant people to me were mainly in other parts of the UK which meant that going into the office was not very useful. I felt a little uncomfortable at times when in the office so I opted to work mainly from home. However every person I met was very nice and welcoming
Your Impressions
I have really appreciated the opportunity given to me and learnt some very useful skills for my future. I would have enjoyed my time more if there were extra people relevant to me in-person and a bit more in-real-life work. The opportunity to work on real-life projects would have made things more interesting
Yes
Show a real willingness to meet people even just for a 5 minute conversation and learn a little bit about what the person does. Show a desire to do extra-curricular work and if given the opportunity to do site-visits or work with real-life projects then definitely do it.
