    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is to support the project team with either PMO tasks or functional tasks, in my case data analysis and visualisation. We have daily stand-up calls to discuss updates to the project and to assign tasks and then we usually have a few client calls and then some time to get on with the work assigned and to ask any questions we may have.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot about how to communicate to clients and with people internally and how to summarise complex pieces of information into a way that people unfamiliar with the topic can understand. I have also learnt powerpoint and excel skills as well as training in PowerBI.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, initially you are not given loads of responsibility but when you complete tasks to a good standard you gain more and more responsibility. By the end of the placement I was leading client calls and data I was analysing was sent to the CFO and other important stakeholders.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of guidance and support from my team, they let you try a task first and fail at it before assisting you which is really useful. It is really helpful to try and make a first attempt at something and then go over what you did well and what you can improve upon. Sometimes more senior people don't have much time to support you so you have to be able to work more independently.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very positive company culture. There is a hybrid working policy that is super flexible and allows people to work how it suits them. There are lots of learning opportunities and social events and everyone is really supportive of your development and growth. I was positively surprised with the culture and I think it is a really selling point of the company.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I would highly recommend this placement to anyone interested in consulting. You get to work on multiple projects with different teams, get to attend lots of socials and learning events and over time you get to take on a lot of responsibility for someone who is quite junior within the firm.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
  • Research the company and the business area you have applied to and what they provide to clients. Having some knowledge about what you will be doing is useful. Also have some questions and be open to learning from the interviewer about the company and the interviewers experiences.
