    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is to assist my team on various modelling projects (both internal and client work) using licensed software such as RMS Risklink and Verisk Touchstone. The main project I took charge of was a model evaluation for demand surge; this included creating input files, learning how to use the interface and run the models, analysing results, and studying model documentation.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I learned how to use the licensed software RMS and Verisk as well as Aon's inhouse analytics software for processing data and running models. All of the input files are created/manipulated in Excel so I massively developed my skills in that. I also learned a whole host of new technical terminology pertaining to catastrophe modelling and property broking.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes - my demand surge project was almost entirely my own responsibility to work on. At every single stage I ran into a new mechanic or an issue I didn't know what to do with so it was my responsibility to reach out for help from my buddy. By the end of my internship I will present all my findings to my team.
