Overview
I worked within operational capital markets, specifically within debt advisory. During the first few weeks, my role consisted of a lot of learning: including reading through information memorandums, term sheets, and looking over excel models. As I progressed, I was tasked with building my own model, with helping create presentations, with data analysis and organisation on excel, and with being present in meetings and calls. There was also lots of time for questions and long conversations with members of my team, which occurred frequently.
Skills
Yes, I have improved my skills in finance, real estate, excel, powerpoint, among other things. This internship is fantastic in terms of providing you with an education in real estate debt finance.
Responsibilities
Yes, it was nice to work on tasks that actually benefitted the team. It was also nice to be given time to ask questions to the team, to ensure the work I provided was correct.
Support & Guidance
It was fantastic to have long 1 hour conversations with my mentor and other members of the team every 2 days or so. I prepared questions and this really helped me understand my role in the business. My mentor was very approachable and had great answers to all of my questions.
Culture
There was a very nice culture. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. In terms of office atmosphere, I could not have asked for anything better.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the internship. It was nice to have a routine, to learn, and to work towards something meaningful. It was great to meet everyone and learn from very experienced and knowledgeable professionals.
Yes
Ensure you have a good CV, that you have a genuine appreciation for real estate, that you prepare the interview well, but most importantly that you be genuine and honest in the interview. Savills does not expect you to be perfect, but rather to be interested in what you do, so make sure that your application reflects this.
