Overview
As an intern I had the opportunity to get involved in a variety of different projects and opportunities. These included researching market and client developments and presenting to the team, attending various client meetings, and my main project which involved producing charts and insights for an industry-wide survey carried out by the company.
Skills
Yes - excel skills improved a lot, using VBA to automate processes. Good exposure to R as well. Communication and presentation skills developed too, as well as industry knowledge.
Responsibilities
I was given responsibility in terms of having a wide variety of tasks, some of which were quite challenging, but there was always a check and review process from more senior team members which made sure that all of my outputs were very well screened.
Support & Guidance
This was one of the best aspects of the internship - everyone on the team was very friendly and quick to offer support. A number of team members really went above and beyond to make sure I was learning as much as possible and making the most of the opportunity.
Culture
Very friendly atmosphere across the company - strong focus on work-life balance and no pressure to work extra hours. Senior staff were accessible and always happy to help.
Your Impressions
I had a really enjoyable time on my internship - the people were great and very supportive, and the work was interesting and helped me to develop a lot.
Yes
Have a think about which business area you'd like to go into - particularly whether you'd prefer to go into pensions or insurance.
