Overview
I am an intern working in the DB retirement team. On a day-to-day basis I will be performing individual calculations for members (typically CETV calcs), performing monthly tasks such as updating monthly yields, AVC conversion factors etc. I usually just do whatever I can to help out, I have also undertaken approximately 35 hours of training in essential pensions and actuarial foundations.
Skills
Yes, my technical skills have been enhanced in both my knowledge of actuarial work as well as my technology skills. I have also learnt valuable office working skills such as appropriate etiquette, email answering and general office behaviour. I have developed communication skills and confidence working here.
Responsibilities
Yes, I feel as though I was given an appropriate amount of responsibility. I was working on real clients, but not without my work being thoroughly checked. I enjoyed the responsibility as I felt like I was making a real difference.
Support & Guidance
Fantastic support and help whenever I needed it. I never really felt like I was doing a task alone which is exactly what you want at the beginning. Everyone is incredibly supportive and willing to help give you guidance.
Culture
Really positive culture and atmosphere. Everyone got on really well and it felt like the kind of place where you are pushed to be the best you can be.
Your Impressions
Absolutely, loved it! Really good blend of training, individual and teamwork. I have been able to perform at my best and enjoy working with such excellent people.
Yes
I think a lot of the culture is about being your best self - and that only happens if you are yourself so I'd advice people to do that, be themselves and show a lot of passion and enthusiasm for what your applying for.
