Overview
I get given a range of different tasks, such as member queries (eg calculating transfer values), calculating factors, updating papers, creating models for GMP equalisation.
Skills
I have developed my excel skills, as I made a few models in excel. I have developed my soft skills such as teamwork and presenting, as we were given an intern project to do and present to the rest of the cohort. I have developed my knowledge of pensions and the financial world.
Responsibilities
I had direct client contact - sending emails, calculating things that went to the client (after checks and reviews from others). I did 'real work' so had a lot of responsibility for an intern.
Support & Guidance
Lots. I was allocated a buddy, who I had regular catch ups with. I could ask her any questions and few comfortable doing so. My manager was very helpful and approachable. Whenever I was delegated any work, it was clearly explained.
Culture
Brilliant. We were invited to socials, not only with other interns, but with colleagues in the office also. There is a focus on inclusivity and being yourself at work.
Your Impressions
I loved it. The company is amazing, the people are so friendly, the work was interesting and the work was real.
Yes
Go for it. Make sure your numerical skills are strong and you are prepared to put effort into making the most of the internship.
