Overview
In the internship a typical day would include working on the following things: I was on two client teams, for whom I would complete ad-hoc work that arose, generally passed on to me by the analysts on the team. I also had my own project, where I managed my time and independently worked towards a final presentation of my work. I also picked up work from other teams where I was interested in learning more.
Skills
Excel, data analysis, time management, presenting, effective communication, teamwork, among others. In this internship I had the opportunity to pick up work that I was interested in and develop skills that I was looking to build, so I was able to tailor my experience to work on the skills I was interested in developing.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of work for which I was able (and expected) to take ownership for, which was very fun. But there was always a lot of support too, if I needed any help, and people were very willing to share their knowledge and expertise with me.
Support & Guidance
I had a people manager that was very supportive, and a buddy who also helped me a lot, and who I was able to ask random questions that arose. We also received initial training which was great for building my knowledge, and I was also able to reach out to those who held the training sessions after if I had any questions or needed help.
Culture
The company culture was super friendly, and everyone was very supportive. There was quite a flat hierarchy, which really helped me to fee comfortable and get to know lots of people within the firm - we had a lot of formal and informal social events during the internship too, which was great. People want to help you and see you succeed and that is really nice.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship. I was involved with a lot of varied work, and have had the opportunity to get to know the broader industry very well. The supportive culture has helped me to thrive.
Yes
When applying having a genuine interest in the work and demonstrating this is really helpful (both in the cover letter and interview). Be sure to have specific examples of why you are passionate and would like to work at the firm.
