The Role
IBM allows you as the intern to get involved in various tasks and community projects. It also gives you a great deal of responsibility and ownership.
Despite being young and inexperienced at the start, the team were extremely welcoming and supportive. Your views are always taken very seriously as you are given a good deal of responsibility.
IBM has many different training methods, whether it be online or through a day set up especially for interns. As there is a lot of different software tools to use there are many training options available to you.
Majority of the time quite busy. Very busy at quarter and month ends due to the amount of data that has to be sent out in these periods.
Given a good level of responsibility as got involved in the majority of tasks the CFO had.
Very important skills developed whilst at IBM. Enhanced verbal and written communication, networking, Microsoft Packages, software tools, presentation skills, etc
The Company
A great atmosphere. Various social events to include all the team from meals and nights out to team days.
Very well structured. Throughout there year IBM have various days set up for interns to develop their skills. Also as you are given two managers this helps you to focus on what you really want to get out of the year!
Given vasts amount of training as mentioned above. A lot of effort and time is gone into the IBM placement program.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
IBM takes on 100's of Interns each year although the graduate opportunities are very limited.
The Culture
A very good social scene. Various events were organised for the Interns. Such as Christmas parties, nights out and a leaving party in May.
As i lived at home during the year and commuted i did not feel the impact of the cost of living in Portsmouth. However, on nights out the area was not that expensive compared to others.
Coming from Bournemouth the nightlife was not as good as there, however, there was a good night scene in gunwharf.
There is a football team on Monday nights and various trips for IBMers to go on that are subsidised.
