    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I sat within the London Retail Management department and predominately focused on out-of-town shopping centres. This involved really interesting weekly site visits to shopping centres and development's for a multitude of different clients. Attended monthly meeting's, budget and arrear meeting as well as having one on one interaction with tenant's. I was mainly updating tenancy schedules and checking for discrepancies within the internal database system which required comparing MRI to lease information.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I became more confident with the software that Savills use as a company such as Workflow and Credit Control Portal. Greater communication skills with client's and team members as well as consolidating attention to detail when reading leases and comparing against other platform's. Good communication skills were also key within this role.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given guided work throughout my month. I was set independent tasks and delegated tasks from client's who I wasn't fully involved with. This required a level of adaptability. Combined with the need to go on site visit's meant being organised to turn up to site's on your own and be able to communicate and act independently and professionally. Although I was fully immersed in the workload from the beginning I found it a really effective way to learn and picking up what to do was easily done through consistent routine with the same uniformed systems. If I ever felt unsure I never felt in doubt that there wasn't someone who I couldn't ask!

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My guidance and support throughout this internship was exceptional. I had two grads looking after me throughout my month, who sent me work to be getting on with - some which was client work and other more general work to guide and help me learn more basic real estate knowledge that may be present within APC process. We had weekly catch-ups and daily chats where I could ask if I ever needed to.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • From my first day I was welcomed warmly to the team. A great atmosphere with a hard working and professional ethos. I genuinely looked forward to going into the office to see everyone daily and have catch-ups with the rest of the team.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at savill's and felt the whole experience was a truly invaluable. It gave me enough time to meet who I wanted to network with as well as gain enough experience in everyday tasks to really grasp the full image of what I'd be up to post university studies. I loved the daily tasks that I was doing and the team that I was immersed within as well as the extra networking events with other departments which gave me a more holistic view of the industry. This also gave me a chance to ask questions and heighten my knowledge to a greater extent
