Overview
I would support client teams with work that had been assigned. I would pick up ad hoc work within other client teams and other business teams (eg research). I was also assigned a project to work on throughout the internship with a final presentation at the end.
Skills
I have developed my professional communication skills along with being more confident in the work environment. I have been exposed to work within the pensions and finance industry that I never knew existed and have built upon this knowledge. I have developed my team work skills as well by working in a very collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
Yes. I was given responsibility of important work that gets delivered to clients as well as supporting backing work which go towards a final piece. I was trusted to manage my own time, deadlines and responsibilities. I was also trusted in communicating directly with external contact points.
Support & Guidance
I had a people manager who oversaw my learning and development throughout with weekly check ins and being very available when I need. I also had a buddy who was a recent grad student and understood the process I was going through. Whenever I was unsure or needed extra support there was always somebody available to assist and support me.
Culture
It is incredibly welcoming. There is a very flat hierarchy which gives you the chance to expand your network within the company without feeling intimidated. The culture is very supportive and relaxed with the options of flexible and hybrid working. Everybody supports everybody and the atmosphere is very relaxing.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my internship very thoroughly. I couldn't recommend Hymans enough to anyone looking for future employment. It is a company I would be proud to work for in the future.
Yes
Be yourself. They are a very inclusive company and are always looking for the possibility to expand the knowledge and experiences of their teams. Be confident in your skills and expertise and do your research beforehand.
