Overview
Helped my desk with the morning comment and various admin tasks. Joined team calls and shadowed various people in the bank. Produced trade ideas for my desk. Used python to automate excel spreadsheets.
Skills
Yes, I learnt how to code in python and my excel skills substantially improved. I also learnt a lot more about the general world of corporate finance.
Responsibilities
Not much responsibility. Was responsible for sending internal emails and comments. Sometimes would send some comments to clients as well.
Support & Guidance
Both my teams were very supportive and so was the HR team.
Culture
Really good culture at the bank. Not like the American investment banks. Very relaxed working environment yet everyone is still motivated and determined to do well and develop their skills. Good work life balance.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time at BNP Paribas and hope to receive a return offer for the grad scheme.
Yes
Be honest when applying and speak to other people who have done internships / grad schemes previously at the bank. Speaking to others is really helpful to see what the culture is like and if you like it. It is imprinted to remember that you have to like the bank, not just vice versa!
