Overview
Day to day, I was given an item to work an (a new feature, or big fix, or a task for improving the performance of some routine tasks done in the team). Then, I would mostly develop in C#, solutions to these items. As well as catching up with colleagues for any questions I have.
Skills
Learnt about micro services, saw a much larger database and use case than what I saw in university, learnt about APIs and how to design them effectively.
Responsibilities
The features I have developed were those requested by traders. I have also developed something for another side of the bank to use. These features have great opportunity to be used now and in the future, and so I have been given a (relatively) equal amount (to the time I had in the internship) of responsibility to my colleagues. The only holdback to certain tasks being assigned, is that they possibly would be longer than the internship time and setup time.
Support & Guidance
The members on my team were friendly and very willing to help when I had questions. There is internal documentation, the quality of this can be varied. Asking your team in person or over messaging is definitely possible and encouraged.
Culture
It was friendly. It can be a bit difficult to speak to traders, but the tech floor is relaxed, and you can feel comfortable talking to other people in the back.
Your Impressions
It was enjoyable, I got to develop many skills.
Yes
The training you get from your manager will be sufficient to start working. It is always useful to have basic object oriented programming and knowledge of databases.
