Overview
I rotated round the different areas of HR so my daily tasks changed all the time. Some of my work was shadowing and attending meetings, but I was often involved in work that the team I was with did. This included emailing people, ringing people, designing comms and newsletters, data analysis on Excel and more.
Skills
My Excel has definitely improved. I have gained a lot of confidence talking to people on the phone and through email, as well as in person.
Responsibilities
In some teams I was given quite a lot of responsibility, whereas in others I was not given as much. It is difficult in HR because they are handling delicate situations, but when I was able to be given responsibility and ownership, I was.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from the different teams. Some were better than others at setting me work and finding things for me to do.
Culture
It's hard to say for Jefferies overall because I was kind of separate to that. The people in HR were all really nice and approachable, I really enjoyed working with them.
Your Impressions
I did enjoy my placement. Sometimes I felt a bit understimulated by the work I was doing.
Yes
For my role specifically I would say make sure you project an approachable and friendly personality. Also make sure you know why you applied and why you might want to work in HR.
