Overview
Day-to-day work varies. Normally working on client projects, e.g. transfer values, or helping out in ATT (technical team). If both of these are quiet you are able to fill you time working on your project or taking the opportunity to shadow someone else.
Skills
Time management has been crucial. I also think collaboration and good people skills have been things I've worked on during my time at Hymans. Also, technical skills have come on greatly thanks tot the support of the team and various learning opportunities.
Responsibilities
Yes. Whilst all work you do is checked, and then sometimes reviewed as well, it is ultimately issued to clients a lot of the time. This gives you real responsibility, but also the reassurance that any mistakes you make will be picked up by someone else so there is no pressure to be perfect straight away!
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support during my internship. Team members are always happy to answer questions you have about work, and this is definitely encouraged. There is no expectation that you know how to do anything at the start and needing help with work was never an issue.
Culture
There was plenty of social events over the course of my eight weeks there. These were great ice breakers with the rest of the team and allowed me to meet a lot more people. For sportier people, there are a number of things to get involved in with your colleagues and this is something I took advantage of.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it massively. It was a brilliant opportunity for me to learn more about the industry and meet a lot of great people. The balance between work and socialising is perfect for me and the flexible working was good as well.
Yes
Show you're keen to get involved in things - both work and social. Making connections is just as important as the work so make sure you show this is something you're up for.
