    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Worked within the Traveler Engagement team in the marketing department. I had a main project in my internship which was maximising the efficiency of the Jira tool my team uses - Jira is a project management software. On a day to day basis my role including creating/editing powerpoints, working with the engineering team, interviewing key stakeholders and documenting this information on my team's work portal.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Powerpoint, word and excel skills have all been developed as I have had to use these softwares on a daily basis. My communication and presentation skills have been developed as a part of my internship. Working within such a big company like expedia meant that I had to show initiative and reach out to other team members to learn about other business and lean on them for advice and their expertise.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility as I was working on updating a software that the entire team uses making my project of significant value. However, due to the complexity of the software, it did require me to undergo a lot of training/learning which meant I did not always work independently. Furthermore, due to the short nature of my internship, by the time I had got to grips with the new tools/softwares, it was time to present, meaning the work I could do was somewhat limited.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I recieved a large amount of support and guidance in my internship. I had weekly 1-1 meetings with my manager as well as an informal 'buddy' in the office to help me through my first couple of weeks. As well as this, Expedia set me up with a 'mentor' who was an experienced member of the company who offered to help me settle in. Everyone on the team was extremely welcoming and supportive.

  • 7. Would you recommend Expedia Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Expedia Group
  • I would say to thoroughly research about the company and its partners. Expedia is a massive brand, particularly in America. A huge part of its business is not just the Expedia brand but also its partners such as Ryanair, RBC and Walmart. Research into these relationships/partnerships to help gain a better understanding. Also make sure that if you want to work at the company you are willing to be social and reach out to others - it is such a big company that you can feel lost otherwise!
