    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • We were assigned to client teams where we got experience working as a newly joining graduate. We learnt how to perform basic calculations and did genuine work for Hymans including transfer values, funding updates and factor updates. We were also given a project which we we presented at the end of the internship.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed a mix of technical and soft skills through the internship. My confidence and presentation skills have massively improved, as well as my ability to communicate clearly and problem solve independently. I have also developed skills in excel, and job specific knowledge of pensions and the calculations involved when working in this industry.

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • The work we were doing was real work that the graduates would do early on in their placements. We the 'doers' for simple calculations initially, but towards the end we were given exposure to more complicated pieces of work. The internship project gave us an opportunity to contribute to something that would be of genuine use to Hymans after we leave.
