Overview
Rotating around the trading floor, writing market updates and providing comments on recent developments in markets to the firm's traders and clients. Pitching trade ideas to full-time analysts.
Skills
I have significantly developed my skills in data analysis, as well as learning the basics of Excel VBA. Additionally, I have been able to get a deeper understanding of financial markets, as well as the products traded within Scotiabank's global markets business.
Responsibilities
Responsibility given can vary depending on the specific rotation, while capital markets is naturally a tougher environment to take on responsibilities as an intern compared to other parts of the bank, I was able to write some commentary that was subsequently sent to the bank's clients, which was a great opportunity to showcase my attention to detail and understanding of markets.
Support & Guidance
I was given great support from the bank's analysts up to Managing Directors.
Culture
Very friendly atmosphere, great accessibility to senior leaders on the floor.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship and felt like I learned an enormous amount both in soft and technical skills. I was also able to make great connections with the other interns and full-time employees on the floor.
Yes
Make sure to be yourself and showcase your ability to think critically during the interview process.
