Overview
Using different software to review company owned assets and any threats that those assets were exposed to. Reporting vulnerable assets to asset owners and understanding how critical a threat is and if an exploit is readily available and how to patch them or provide fixes. Exporting data / list of assets from different software and sharing them with analyst. Learning engineering and how to use Azure VM and different tools in Linux to discover vulnerabilities or protect assets / environment.
Skills
I have learnt how to use different asset management and security software such as Cisco Kenna, Cycognito, Qualys to monitor real time traffic and assets and what is happening to those assets. Learning to understand and interpret information from these data exports to better understand which assets are at risk or have critical conditions. Learnt to navigate through these complex software to filter and find results that actually mean something. How to use different security tools within Linux. Communicate effectively within a corporate environment and to teams.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was working on real world projects and tasks within my internship. I contributed towards working the Tesco environment a lot safer by discovering updated CVEs and finding assets that were vulnerable to those CVEs which were real live assets currently deployed and at risk. I was also working on a registry of DNS domains and was taking care of looking through faulty or sketchy domains that didn’t look right and made a list of them to report to the analyst.
Support & Guidance
I was working with a team of 5 people and the guidance and support I received was very valuable and on point. I did not feel like I was neglected or not given anything concrete. I also had a graduate buddy who was a first year graduate and it was very helpful to have someone who was pretty much at the same level as me to ask for guidance or help when i was stuck with something.
Culture
The company culture was relaxed and flexible, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere. It wasn’t strict but rather encouraged a sense of openness and comfort. Employees enjoyed a laid-back environment where they felt valued and supported. The general atmosphere was friendly and inclusive, making it a great place to work. Overall, the culture fostered a sense of belonging and ease, contributing to a pleasant and enjoyable work experience.
