Overview
My team ensured I always had meaningful work to do and that my worked stretched and expanded my skills without de-moralising me. My hard-work and curiosity were reciprocated, which helped me gain a lot of corporate experience. I was treated as an internal employee and received access to internal vacancies, which allowed me to interview for a role within my team and receive an offer to an entry level role the same September.
Skills
I received access to a SAS Learning Subscription, which helped me begin learning SAS programming. I worked on a Python-based financial model to develop my python programming skills. I received Microsoft Excel training sessions to improve my proficiency. I received informal training with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint to further improve my proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Responsibilities
I was given as much responsibility as I desired, however, they stressed the importance of having a work-life balance and did not want my responsibilities to spill into the weekends.
Support & Guidance
A member of the team was specifically assigned to me, in case I needed any help.
Culture
Nationwide Building Society emphasise a work-life balance, and the resulting sense of community is clear. There is no incentive to be selfish, as hard-work is recognised and celebrated without competition.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it very much. I feel I gained two internships’ worth of experience in one.
Yes
