Overview
We had daily stand-up meetings to go over our progress for auditing our client, and to assign tasks for each team member for the day. We would then proceed with our audit tasks for the day, which could include contacting the client for relevant information and checking various financial statements against the provided information e.g. invoices and proof of purchase receipts. Most of the work would be completed on excel using a work laptop.
Skills
Learnt about the audit process and further acccounting knowledge, gained some skills in using excel more proficiently, learnt about effective team communication and task delegation.
Business Insight
The experience gave a clear insight on what daily work life would be like and the tasks involved. They also held a two day firmwide induction where we learnt about the company and the various business lines available. Information was provided clearly and we could always ask questions to colleagues during the internship.
Culture
The two day induction was a great welcome to the company, it was very well organised and everyone was well catered for. During work in the office, everyone was very helpful and friendly and we were encouraged to ask questions if we were feeling unsure. There was sometimes a little pressure to get things done efficiently, but it did not feel overwhelming. I definitely enjoyed the culture and atmosphere overall.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed learning about the company and the way it conducts business. The culture at the office was inclusive and friendly, so I never had issues in asking questions on things I was curious about. The two day induction was also great and gave opportunities to socialise and network with other interns at the firm from various business lines.
Yes
Make sure to research the firm and the business area you apply for before starting the application process, especially the firm's culture and values as you will get a better understanding of how they work. During the various application stages, think carefully before confirming your answers and be honest. Having work or volunteer experience is also helpful as it gives you experiences you can talk about during the interview, even if it is not directly related to the business area.
