    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • - Attend team meetings to manage team output and to stay up to date with company-wide developments - Provide updates to line managers to ensure teams are aware of progress on projects and tasks - Calculate individual cases of pension entitlement - review historical pension contracts to ensure calculations are being made correctly - cleanse, organise, update, and generally manage data sources - carry out internal projects to aid training - one general industry research project to gain a better outlook on the pensions landscape, and one more technical valuation project to refine technical skills and presentation methods.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Had the opportunity to: - Chair team meetings that entire teams releid upon to keep up to date with company news - Organise social events for entire departments - Help in producing client meeting material - Conduct primary research for business development purposes - Put together outlines of financial market developments - Come up with substantiated views of potential policy developments

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Had designated "buddy" to aid with work within the team. Had access to all junior staff who were invaluable in providing work and supporting me in carrying out tasks. Team Leaders and Deputy team leaders provided some very useful feedback halfway and at the end of the internship which helped me develop.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very supportive and welcoming. Particular emphasis on development and improvement. Not at all heirarchical, had access to junior and senior colleagues at all times, and had great exposure to higher-level meetigns and interactions to gain insight into the wider management and operations of the firm. Most senior colleagues actually often very helpful and willing to provide work - very rewarding and motivating.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Very much so. Great opportunity to get insight into functions of a consulting firm at all level, especially the exposure to more senior staff and their day to day jobs. Had opportunities to sit in on client meetings, meet clients, and produce material for use in client meetings aswell.

  • Yes


  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Lane Clark & Peacock
  • Focus on paying attention to the details. Do not worry about being the quickest to produce a piece of work, quality and precision is far more important. Be accurate in every calculation and decision, and ensure that when your work is checked their are no easily avoided errors. The industry does not necessarily favour the "all guns blazing" attitude, but rather those who are meticulous and precise in their work.
