Overview
Being delegated a variety of pieces of work - on TVs, AFUs, Valuations, Data manipulation, using Excel models. Opportunity to ask plenty of questions about the work or in general. Lunch/socialise with the team.
Skills
Improved my excel skills, and communication skills. Learnt a lot about DB pensions and also insurance.
Responsibilities
As an intern, I mainly did tasks/calculations and drafting emails which were checked by the person who delegated the work, and then by someone superior.
Support & Guidance
The opportunity to ask questions was always provided and encouraged. This was really helpful and allowed me to understand why I was doing the tasks I was given.
Culture
Office was super friendly, could talk to anyone. No hierarchy-feel at all. Very supportive colleagues, asking questions was encouraged.
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed it and would accept an offer to return as a graduate.
Yes
Be curious about actuarial work and pensions in general and do a bit of research on this. Have a couple questions prepared to ask in the interview.
