Overview
working on a research project that has been assigned to you, involved in team meetings, shadowing supervisor in the lab, catch ups with supervisor
Skills
significantly developed skills in the analytical technique you work on (can now independently run an LC with confidence). plenty of opportunities to present and develop communication skills (completed three presentations and a poster). developed understanding of how pharmaceutical business works. many opportunities to learn about different jobs and careers outside of just analytical chemistry
Responsibilities
yes. you are trusted with your project and treated like an expert the more you work on it. trusted to make decisions about what direction to take the project in and responsible for communicating findings in an effective and understandable way. trusted to work independently in the labs after training is complete
Support & Guidance
everyone was willing to help. supervisor incredibly helpful and anyone who you email or message is also happy to help
Culture
amazing team and everyone is so lovely and welcoming. didnt feel like 'just a summer intern'. flexible working hours and opportunities to bond with the team
Your Impressions
really really enjoyed it. it was a bit slow at the start due to 2/3 weeks of training required before project can officially start, but after that it was all amazing
Yes
Show personality in your application / interview. Do not just parrot what you've done in labs at uni / uni based experience. Talk about experience gained from hobbies and extra curriculars. If you get an interview try not to worry too much - I was really nervous but both my interviewers were really lovely and understanding. Before the interview as well think of examples to talk about for each of the values and go over uni notes as there is a values interview and a technical interview
