Overview
I worked on the support team which worked on both internal projects and support projects for clients. My role is to take a look at tickets which either be a bug fix or a ticket to add a new feature. I would familiarize myself with the project and implement the ticket. Then I would document my changes and submit it to the repository where my supervisor will review my code and tell me changes to make or accept them.
Skills
Definitely, I learned a lot of skills about the tech stack and the industry standard procedure of software engineering. I learned how to use version control software and maintaining major full stack projects which cannot be done if working on a personal project.
Responsibilities
I felt like I could have been given more responsibility, my work involved working on tickets and adding the functionalities that have already been described. It would have been interesting to work on the full process of planning the development of software as a new responsibility as I felt that it could bring me valuable experience in the software engineer role.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance. At the start when I was doing the training, my mentor was very helpful in getting me setup and allowing me to learn the tech stack at my own pace. When working on projects, my colleagues were also very useful in helping me solve issues that I'm not too familiar with.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable. There were many company events where we could enjoy nice food and it was very relaxing to be able to work in this environment.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my internship to a great extent. The only thing I wish could be improved was the duration of the internship. I felt like 4 weeks was not enough since I was only working on real projects for 2 weeks. I really enjoyed seeing the impact of my code and I wished the internship could have been longer.
Yes
Make sure you really enjoy coding.
