Overview
The daily role involves planning and carrying out a variety of analytical chemistry techniques to support my project, attending meetings and presenting my findings. There is also a lot of opportunity to learn more about the pharmaceutical industry by attending larger company meetings, shadowing people from different departments and touring facilities.
Skills
I have developed my time and project management skills, had many opportunities to present work and gained experience with both internal and external software such as Microsoft office and analytical chemistry-specific software.
Responsibilities
I was fully responsible for my project. This included planning my practical work, setting deadlines, communicating my results and recording my findings. However I was also supported in doing so and felt able to ask for help when I needed it.
Support & Guidance
I was assigned a supervisor who helped support my specific project. I also had regular meetings with my manager to ensure I had adjusted well to working within the company. Aside from this I was also aided by two experts in the field of my project, and had access to many company resources to aid my work.
Culture
There is a healthy work-life balance and a good emphasis on building connections within the team which made it an enjoyable atmosphere.
Your Impressions
It was a great opportunity to discover more about the pharmaceutical industry which has helped me narrow down future career options I will consider. I also enjoyed my specific project and have taken away many skills which I will be able to use within future education/employment.
