Overview
My day to day role is liaise with the clients and contractors to ensure set works are following the set schedule of works, with specified deadlines being met. If there is any delays to the works or cost issues, it is my duty to ensure these are correctly flagged up and suitable measures are put in place to rectify these issues.
Skills
I was based in the same department I was in during my industrial placement, however I was working on one large project this time as opposed to multiple small ones. This allowed me to learn new things as well as build upon my previously existing experience which has been highly beneficial.
Responsibilities
Yes, there were many occasions where I was put in a position of heighted responsibility such as leading workshops and progress update meetings, alongside the responsibility of delivering specific documents of information by key set deadlines.
Support & Guidance
I received a large amount of support from the team around me as they were aware some concepts would be new to me. If I ever had a question, I was made to feel very comfortable to ask any of my team members for help.
Culture
Very welcoming with plenty of social opportunities to get to know everyone better
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my summer placement as it built upon my previous placement knowledge while presenting me with new opportunities to meet new people and gain new insights into different areas of construction.
Yes
Try and take every opportunity presented to you, which there are many, as you will be able to gain so much from them. Try to go into the office as much as possible as it's the best way to meet new people.
