Overview
Eight week internship, split between the Actuarial Consulting and Investment Consulting teams. Predominantly worked with Defined Benefit pension schemes. Examples of work include calculating transfer-values, and drafting Investment Monitoring Reports.
Skills
Yes - excel, presentations, communication, work management, understanding of the pensions industry.
Responsibilities
Yes - aside from the four assessed tasks, almost all of my tasks was work for clients. However, this is within the safety net that all work is checked, and the support of your mentors for both teams.
Support & Guidance
We received significant formal training, and the entire team is always happy to help if you are stuck.
Culture
Warm and welcoming - an extremely supportive culture in the office, where everyone is eager to help out. Many socials organised - both office and firm wide - which helped a lot with getting to know everyone.
Your Impressions
Completely - the analytical (problem-solving) nature of the work was very rewarding, and the friendly and supportive nature of everyone made me look forward to coming into work every day!
Yes
Be proactive in accepting work when it is offered to you. Also, keep an open mind about whether you want to go down the Actuarial Consulting or Investment Consulting route.
