    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • In-depth insight into Expedia as a company, and the roles and opportunities they offer to students. There were very insightful looks into how software development role applications are processed, from HackerRank assessments to technical interviews, as well as covering the perspective of a recruiter. There were lots of industry "hacks" at how to ace these interviews and applications for any software role, not limited to just Expedia. Delivered in a mixture of sessions ranging from panel talks, presentations, networking opportunities and more.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Definitely gained a much better insight into how applications to technical roles such as software engineering are carried out. I have also never seen applications shown from the recruiter side, e.g. the recruiters' view of LinkedIn and the extra options they have - plus how you can tailor your own profile to stand out in their searches.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Left with a much broader knowledge of how many roles there were in the tech sector, and also within software engineering itself. The Career Discovery Programme walked us through what our immediate next steps could be - preparing for internship roles, and then moving onto graduate roles and then ultimately looking for a full time job.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Super welcoming atmosphere - the office was amazing, with lots of places to work and ways to keep employees comfortable. All the staff seemed to really enjoy working at Expedia, and all shared a love for travel too. Definitely a great community built around the company.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Found this insight much more valuable than other similar ones I have been on. From the personal, individual insight into applications, including actually doing HackerRank practice during the event and showing us how to keep practicing our skills, to enrolling us on mentorship programmes to keep in contact with us and further develop us. It was obvious that the career's teams at Expedia put a lot of thought into making the programme as beneficial as they could.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Expedia Group
  • If you have any questions or extra accommodations for the application process, reach out to the careers team. They are outstandingly accommodating and welcoming, and will go above and beyond to help you through the process. For applications themselves just be yourself and answer any interview questions honestly as best you can.
