    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role was to analyse company, making a recommendation on its rating depending on the industry challenges and trends, the company's performance, the risk that the company or the sector could face but also the potential mitigants that could nuance those risks. The goal of the analysis is to decide on whether to grant or not a loan or any facility to the company or to accept transaction with another bank or financial institutions .

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I significantly developed my ability to analyse a company, it's environment and industry, the challenge it could face and what risks this implies. I also developed soft skills such as communication as we had several presentations in front of people with high positions. These presentations had to be concise, clear but comprehensive. In terms of communication, interns had to be able to talk and ask relevant questions to people from different teams thus developing our networking skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Interns have a lot of responsibilities. Indeed, we have to analyse several companies or provide helpful updates on some for credit executives to take decisions on the rating. We decide what to recommend for the company we have worked on an present our recommendation to executive directors and vice president. Knowing they have little time and need to have access to clear and concise credit memo, interns are responsible for delivering a memo that will be read by directors.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • As interns, we received a lot of guidance and support. We have weekly or sometimes even daily 1 to 1 meeting with managers in order to discuss how we feel, what we can improve and what are our needs. They will then talk to our teams in order to discuss if there is some concerns to raise. The support is also provided by the teams themselves which remain highly approachable and available to help if needed.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture was very healthy. Everyone was available to discuss any problem or listening when a concern was raised. The atmosphere was calm despite the amount of work. There was no pressure put on interns or any sudden deadlines that may have caused some stress. Some weekends were dedicated to rest and not work. Overall, the atmosphere was peaceful with some moments of stress when the presentations were soon but we remained encouraged by everyone.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship for several reasons. First, I had the chance to meet many people in interns and full time that shared their experiences and advice with us. Secondly, I was really interested in the job, I always liked analysing companies, dive into an industry, look at challenges and risks and how to actually mitigate them. Finally, the environment was dynamic which I liked. We were never bored and could have a look at transactions that were happening on live.
