Overview
The role is an insight into two different departments - Analytics and Sales. The analytics is the foundational department that new hires join prior to moving sales. Here you gain a comprehensive overview of Bloomberg's product offering, market concepts, terminal functionality and interact with clients to assist them with any issues they have on the terminal. The department is divided across asset classes. Sales teams travel monthly but the internship is all London based - we were tasked with reaching out to clients, pitching new functions on the Bloomberg terminal and assisting clients with their workflow.
Skills
The program gives you a comprehensive insight into all asset classes and all players in the financial industry - both on the buyside and the sellside. You also gain extensive terminal experience and training.
Responsibilities
From the first week of the internship you are encouraged to ring Bloomberg clients and try to book meetings with them. You are also encouraged to pitch functionality on the terminal - these can be very sophisticated products, so it is a brilliant learning experience. You are also encouraged to reach out internally to anyone in the business.
Support & Guidance
If you need support you can reach out to anyone in the business - Bloomberg has an extremely open culture. There is very structured weekly training - so you are never short of guidance.
Culture
Bloomberg prides itself on company culture and in particular it's people. The company is extremely diverse, as a second language is often a pre-requisite you can expect to hear all different languages every day and meet people from all over the world.
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed it.
Yes
Make sure you understand what Bloomberg really does before you apply - they have a vast product offering - financial software in the form of the desktop but also huge data offerings and enterprise products for risk management and portfolio management.
