    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • In the analytics department I take care of clients' problems with our product, answering their questions and upskilling them by conducting product calls. In the Sales department I called new clients to welcome them on Bloomberg and I set meetings to upskill them. I also pitched new Bloomberg functions and research related to their player type and workflow.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot about the Bloomberg terminal and its many applications. From news coverage and research analysis to trading. I have also learned more about programming applications for the terminal and excel. These include BQL, BQNT and other APIs. On the other hand, I also expanded my sales skills by learning different techniques and approaches when dealing with clients.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the right amount of responsibilities during the internship. In Sales I was always guided by my mentors but they also let me do my job and gave me enough responsibilities to call clients and go to meetings. In analytics I shadowed my mentors and they showed me their daily work.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • During my internship, I received support from many different people across the organization. First of all, my mentors were always ready to help me if needed. Moreover, also the other interns were very collaborative and eager to help, as well as all the employees, who were always open to explain new things and let us shadow them.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was a very open company culture. Everyone was very open to speaking with you, even from other completely unrelated departments. There was a lot of cross-department collaboration for many projects and everyone was ready to help. The office environment was also very unique as the pantry space was welcoming and there are no private offices. As such, it was very easy to reach out to other employees and speak to them.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg
  • My advice to people applying to Bloomberg is to be proactive, curious, and try to build your network as soon as possible, trying to include people from other departments. You will have to search for opportunities and try to catch them. Moreover, try to discover what other departments do and what you like the most, because in Bloomberg there are a lot of different things you can do!
