Overview
3 days Sales, 2 days analytics. Analytics is learning about the financial markets through the Bloomberg Terminal, and this involved all asset classes. Sales consists of contacting clients to provide updates and insights that would improve and enhance their workflow. these are 2 separate departments but are combined for the purpose of the internship
Skills
Improved my German speaking skills, as this is what I was hired for (to speak to german clients) Sales skills have improved through speaking to clients and gaining an insight into their work and ideas. Communication; speaking to interns of different backgrounds and nationalities. Time management - working on multiple projects simultaneously developed knowledge of the financial markets. Gained an understanding of how to use the bloomberg terminal and the importance of it in hte financial industry.
Responsibilities
Yes! more than other internships that i have heard about. we had the privilege of being able to call clients and speak to them without supervision or pre-arrangment. We were also taken on client visits, so that we could shadow bloomberg employees and watch how they conduct such visits. We were also treated as a full time employee rather than an intern, we had access to most things within the office that full-time employees could also use.
Support & Guidance
A lot of guidance and support. Mentors and managers were connected to me and established right at the beginning of the internship, and they made sure to catch up with me once a weeks to address an problems i may be facing and provide instant useful support. This made the whole experience much easier to digest and make the most of.
Culture
Fantastic! Anyone, no matter their seniority and age, were willing to make time to have coffee chats, and even if they didn't most of them replied saying their schedules were jam packed and so wouldn't be available. This allowed to me to have fantastic exposure to the company and its people. I learnt so much about the different departments because of this and have curated a wide network which I hope to leverage in the future.
Your Impressions
To a very, very large extent. Best 10 weeks of 2024 so far for me. Quite sad that I'm finishing this week. Would love to experience it all over again!
Yes
Research the company, as they will look for this in the hiring process. I have spoken to HR so I know this for sure! See if you fit the culture. it's one of the best in the industry and they very carefully pick people based on the culture. they can recognise this through Video interviews and written questions. If you have a language skill, it will make the application much easier. If you have python coding knowledge, this will help more and more in the coming 2/3 years.
