The Role
IBM was really great in terms of the work I did, being involved in key decision making and the relevant experience I gained.
My colleagues really took me in as part of the team and we would bond even out of the work place. In fact some of them were invited to my wedding and still remain very close friends with me
My manager was very interested in my development and would have regular meetings on how he can help me grow.
I think I had a right balance that occasionally could dip either side. Work came in sporadic burst so it was very easy to be swamped one week, and very relaxed another.
I was left major items of work to complete and was involved in key decision making.
As part of the Foundation Interns, I was able to develop a lot of soft skills through training courses, in house opportunities and give back activities to the external community. Also having to meet critical turn around times on the job and ensuring clear and concise communication helped a lot in writing reports back in university
The Company
It was the right mix in my view. We were serious at times, but as a team we would quite often stop and chat with one another and share a story or joke. Kept the atmosphere relaxed.
I found it was well thought out and nearly everything was perfect. There were a few minor issues but was quickly fixed that it did not impact my overall experience
If I didn't know I was a placement student, I would have thought I was a full time employee! I was given the opportunity to spread my development as far as I can and not impact my work.

I have now actually being hired back as a Graduate and find it gets even better than when I was an Intern!
The Culture
There was a lot of parties and organising social events among the students. We quite often would go to the clubs or eat lunch together.
The area we worked in was relatively cheap and have a good few pubs and clubs to socialise in. Although as students we tended to favour a select few.
There are some great places to go out and as there is a major university in the city, the students numbers are always out.
There are some activities such as sport or volunteering activities. I did not get too involved in these however
