    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role requires me to speak to lots of people across different teams at AZ. On a daily basis I am looking at data, analysing scenarios for different supplier nodes and what the team could do to reduce stock levels or prepare itself if an adverse event occurs. I am regularly on teams calls and involved with meetings, which allows me to have a better understanding of the team and future plans.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During this internship I have improved on a personal level, I have become more confident in speaking to people, as well as reaching out If I don't understand. I have also become more efficient in my data analysis skills, excel, Smartsheet and Power BI. I would also add that my presentation skills have improved.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given responsibility just like a regular employee which I appreciated. I was in control of my day, it was my responsibility to reach out to people and get the information I needed in order to move forward with my projects. However, the nature of one project, running a scenario planning tool with the other intern, was overwhelming and I felt as if we had too much responsibility because we didn't have anybody to reach out too for support.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 5/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received support and guidance if I reached out for it. People would always put me in the right direction, and I did have someone at the company that I went too for most things. People were always happy to help out and responded quickly if I needed support. However, to improve I think that each intern should have a mentor who checks up on them weekly, because I didn't have this and If I did I think it would have helped me a lot more.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very friendly, you could talk to anybody and they wouldn't be irritated. However, I quickly learned that there was big divisions between teams and not a lot of communication between them.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?
  • 5/5

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship, I enjoyed speaking to people and finding out about different career opportunities within the company. I really liked the team I worked with, they were always supportive and friendly, and wanted to get to know me which was nice. I liked the opportunities to see the different sites, e.g., packing factory and a lab, it made me link things together and was generally interesting. I also liked working alongside another intern.

  • 7. Would you recommend AstraZeneca to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca
  • I would say to be yourself and don't not apply if you don't have a science background, because I didn't and you don't use science in a Global Supply Chain internship- its just a bonus if you understand more about what they do on a higher level. If you want to go into an internship where you are given responsibility, and can find out about many career opportunities, then this is the perfect company to apply too.
