Overview
As an intern, you generally have the role of a trainee lawyer, assisting lawyers where appropriate. This could consist of drafting ancillary documents, proofreading, legal research, taking minutes and much more.
Skills
Developed general IT skills, and gained proficiency in all Office Apps. Also developed legal research skills, and gained confidence using Lexis and Practical Law. General social / networking skills also improved by virtue of the sheer number of people you meet day to day.
Responsibilities
I was given a large amount of responsibility from the outset, but surprisingly, this increased even more once I showed proficiency in my work.
Support & Guidance
All the supervisors were lovely and on hand to answer any questions. If they were busy, the wider team was always happy to lend a hand.
Culture
Everyone was incredibly welcoming and made an effort to get to know me as an individual. This made it really easy to to get involved in their work as a genuine connection had been formed.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the placement, and it was a great way to spend my summer!
Yes
Definitely make sure to be yourself in the interview as it's something they truly value. Be genuine! Also having a strong knowledge of RPC and where their strong (insurance) is helpful.
