Overview
As a fire engineering, the role ranges from preparing fire strategies to inspection and assessment of fire safety management and protection measures in existing buildings
Skills
I have learnt a lot from this experience as I did not know much about fire engineering before this role. I have learnt about the regulations that are followed in the UK regarding fire safety. I have also learnt more technical knowledge, including CFD modelling. I have also greatly improved my report writing skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, while I was given practice tasks to get familiar with the role, I was also given the opportunity to work on projects that were happening in real time. I saw my work being used within the project and given to clients. I have been responsible for mark-ups and research for various different projects.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of guidance. Everyone in the team was always willing to help and always took the time to address any questions I had. As soon as I was done with a task, team members would take the time to make sure I had something else to work on.
Culture
The company culture was one of the parts I really enjoyed, especially regarding my team. I found the environment quite relaxed and positive, which provided me with a great placement experience. There were quite a lot of different opportunities during my time here
Your Impressions
I really did enjoy my first placement experience. I think this company was a great choice, it introduced me to the post-study world without it being overwhelming or negative. I was able to have a fulfilling experience during my time here, both through what I learnt and the people I met.
Yes
The ARUP application process was quite different to some other places, perhaps demanding a bit more from the very start. This was actually better for me in the long-term because it made me really think through my application rather than submit something without considering it too much. I felt valued because of my genuine interest in the role.
