    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a Trainee Junior Data Scientist, my day-to-day responsibilities include fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) on proprietary datasets to enhance their performance. I actively participate in SCRUM ceremonies, such as daily stand-ups and sprint planning, to ensure our projects stay on track. Additionally, I assist with internal communications, ensuring clear and effective information flow within the team and across departments. My role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including data engineers , analysts, and product managers, to align our data science initiatives with business goals. I also perform data analysis and maintain thorough documentation of our processes and progress.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support from my line manager and was assigned a mentor that i could speak to weekly if i needed to. Everyone here is super friendly and open to communication. There are many other interns here (working in many different departments) if you need support from peers. Unilver has a diverse culture that prioritses friendliness.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Friendly and relaxed. Everyone including the senior managers are down to earth. There were times I was eating lunch with highly senior employees without realising it. Everyone works hard but they seem to enjoy their work too. The office plan is fairly open so once i ended up sitting with a completely different team (who I'd never seen before) and ended up getting a slice of a birthday cake. In unilever people seem really happy to be here.
