Overview
Had my own project which was to procure, assemble, integrate, test and write supporting documents for a specific part for my team. This meant time spent researching, writing documents and then hands on assembly in a lab. Other activities involved shadowing meetings and going to a conference. I was able to offer some assistance to some other projects within the team as well.
Skills
IT skills massively improved. Communication skills generally refined as well as adapting to the workplace where conversations with colleagues are very different to at university. Public Speaking
Responsibilities
I was given the sole responsibility of a project which was great.
Support & Guidance
Everyone was so helpful and friendly and most of the time would be willing to stop what they're doing to give me advice.

Really enjoyed it. Would happily repeat the summer.
Yes
Really try to understand what type of person you are. Ie. good communicator or not and this will narrow down what specific role to apply for. If not a natural communicator then a more coding based role would be better. If naturally a good communicator then a role organising and experiencing a bit of middle management would be better. The best roles for the latter is Integration System and Validation (trials).
