    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My days mostly consisted of speaking to influencers and sending out seeding packages. I would also do research into competitors and their price points; often presenting this to my team. I would have daily meetings with my manager, where she would provide me with tasks that varied from speaking to suppliers, to stores, to different people in our team.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Throughout this process I’ve really developed my multi-tasking skills. A lot of the time you could be halfway through task before a new one comes in. I also worked during a time where a lot of my team was on annual leave, so after the first few weeks, if I had any questions, whilst I could go and find someone else to ask these questions; most of the time, I had to use my own judgement which helped build confidence within the role. I also really developed my presentation, time-management, communication, teamwork and excel skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A lot, a lot more than I thought I'd be given. A lot of other interns in different workplaces, complain about being undermined, or being given little work, but at L'Oréal, your work isn't checked and you're given work that is actually making a difference to the company. Its kind of scary but also makes the work that much more interesting.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A lot, especially towards the beginning. It was difficult, since my internship was during summer, there was a good chance, someone who's assistance I needed, might be on annual leave. Luckily, there's always someone to ask if you're really struggling

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 4/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Really healthy, everyone in my team and other teams, understand the importance of having out of work hours, not overworking yourself and the importance of mental health, if you're struggling, you'll be assisted. Everyone is really nice and helpful, even the higher positioned managers who seem scary upon first meeting them. There's not a single person who didn't seem warm upon first meeting them.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My internship was a fantastic introduction to the professional world. I loved the variety of tasks and projects, which gave me valuable hands-on experience. The team was supportive, and I gained skills I'll carry throughout my career. I highly recommend this internship to anyone considering it.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • Authenticity and teamwork are key here! Be genuine, show your collaborative spirit, and be ready to contribute to a supportive team environment. Also, teamwork is deeply ingrained in their culture. Every interaction I had reinforced the idea that collaboration is key to their success. So, make sure you highlight your experiences working effectively in teams, your willingness to support others, and your ability to contribute to a positive and productive group dynamic. That's what they value most, so let those strengths shine through.
