Overview
I would be looking through an application database and job platforms such as Linkedin and through CVs, calling candidates to screen them for one job role: a recruitment consultant. I would screen the candidates with roughly 5 questions and then if successful, pass them on to the next stage of the interview process.
Skills
I have developed my existing telephone skills.
Responsibilities
I was limited in my responsibility, I was told about the further recruitment stages however past the initial recruitment stage, my candidates would be passed on to a senior recruiter and I would no longer be involved in the process. I was given a lot of job adverts to look through, however after the first initial phone call, I had no responsibility in the progress of the candidate or attend their later interview stages.
Support & Guidance
I had daily chats with my manager to discuss the tasks for the day. In the first few weeks I was not given much guidance until after I had been told my work was wrong despite not being guided as to how to do them properly. However, once I had been told how to d these tasks correctly, I received positive feedback and support for the remainder of my internship.
Culture
The environment wasn't the most friendly. Members of the team rarely said hi or introduced themselves to me, and the working environment was quite tense. My manager often swore and made unprofessional remarks towards other employees and about candidates. Some members of the team were an absolute delight to work with, however the team atmosphere was overall quite poor. Other teams in the office often had team social events and parties, however my team were never invited to participate in these. I appreciate that this is a high pressure field to work in, the working culture was not one that I felt largely positive.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed working with some members of the team and widening my knowledge of a few areas of recruitment and learning about the industry however I did feel that my learning was capped, especially compared to the other interns on my placement.
