Overview
Worked in the London Financial Markets team, specialising in accountancy & finance roles. Involved 1000s of phone calls & dozens of meetings throughout the year. Developed relationships with high-profile clients & talented candidates by offering Hays services.
Skills
My communication & people skills have improved significantly by conversing with a wide range of individuals. The daily use of internal systems & softwares helped to develop my computer skills. My knowledge of the job market & recruitment processes is extensive.
Responsibilities
After two weeks of basic training & settling in, I was given my own recruitment desk. I had the same responsibilities as everyone else. There was no coffee making or busy work. I was solely responsible for making money in my segment of the market.
Support & Guidance
The director, manager & senior consultants were always on hand to offer support & guidance. Although it was largely an independent role, unique situations arose daily that required advice & insights from more experienced recruiters. I was always encouraged to ask for help.
Culture
It is a very sociable & lively office. Everyone feels included & collaboration is encouraged. There is plenty of camaraderie when everyone isn’t on the phone or in a meeting.
Your Impressions
It was a thoroughly enjoyable & rewarding year. The work kept me on my toes & there were new challenges everyday. I adapted to the demands of the job pretty quickly. The networking opportunities were fantastic & I’ve made many friends. Definitely glad I’ve had this experience!
Yes
Show your personality & confidence. Being able to build rapport with people is vital in recruitment, so be conversational & enthusiastic. Once you’ve had the basic training, you’ll pick things up very quickly if you’re proactive & ask questions.
