Overview
Since you were involved in the projects the team were doing, no day was the same. You carried out whatever tasks the fee earners needed done, which helped keep the days interesting. The only consistency was that there was a meeting with a member of each of the officer's different teams scheduled everyday at the same time. You were also often scheduled to take part in online presentations.
Skills
Yes. I learnt time management, legal drafting and research, teamwork, and how to utilise software like templify, imanage, and mimecast.
Business Insight
Fantastic. The fee earners were usually really excited to share and talk about their work, which made the prospect of working at the firm permanently more exciting. They often engaged conversationally and didn't hesitate to offer general career advice and as well as tips for the traineeship.
Culture
Very open. Many of the the trainees in particular were extremely friendly and eager to get to know people and offer them help and advice. The same was true of associates and partners. The culture encouraged open communication and teamwork and was extremely welcoming and put you at ease very quickly.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. I learned so much and got so experience in all the key soft skills that are fundamental to successful career in any law firm. It really built up my confidence and made me excited for a future career as a solicitor.
Yes
Bring all that you say back to you having the key qualities they're after. Show excitement about the opportunity and that you care. Show your humanity because they'll actually judge you harsher if you don't do that. Be open about the mistakes you have made so you can show that you can learn from them (they want potential, not perfection). Take your time on the online assessment. It's not a race.
