Overview
My day to day roles included checking the previous days engineer diaries and records that had been submitted and chase any that may have been missed. Filtering through invoices for the monthly application to the clients and sorting orderly systems for filing the invoices and records away. Day to Day i assisted the commercial team in applications, procurement and Payments. I would usually assist engineers in a daily walk out and help with inductions for knowledge of other peoples roles within the project.
Skills
Yes, I have learnt many new skills throughout my placement year. Many skills and knowledge that is not taught in university and only learn through experience for example i have worked on an NEC contract project however in university we only learn about JCT contracts.
Responsibilities
Yes a lot of responsibility, this is the best way to learn. I managed my own subcontractor accounts with supervision from a senior QS. Had my own orders to procure such a bus shelters and street furniture. I have also assisted in helping with streetlighting and traffic signals. I took over managing the sites timesheets and my own section if the monthly application to the client.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support where needed by senior staff members however as i am dyslexic i find learning difficult and take longer in certain aspects for example writing emails i had every email i sent proof read by someone as i don't make sense sometimes and over complicate things with out it being necessary as well as spelling and grammar errors ( i have massively improved in this), i don't think this was very understood between some colleagues in the team.
Culture
the office and site is a great atmosphere everyone is so friendly and helpful. i have felt very welcomed by everyone and i apricate being included in everything and everyone helping in all aspects.
