Overview
Supported the team with any tasks in all areas (Asset Risk, Marketing, HR). Attendees daily meetings with team members to discuss tasks. Met with all team leads of Asset Risk, Marketing and HR to learn about the different teams within each area and the work they do. Shadowed more senior colleagues to gain a better understanding of their role. Participated in workshops e.g. presentation skills workshop alongside other student employees to develop our skills.
Skills
Developed existing skills e.g. adaptability. Working in different departments of the business allowed me to improve how I adapt to new environments and situations. Built on my communication skills and teamwork by working with many different people. Asset risk internship enabled me to begin exploring data analysis in more depth. The presentation workshop enabled me to develop my presentation skills which was useful both in work and when I went back to university.
Responsibilities
Yes, for example during my Marketing internship I was given the responsibility of uploading content onto our market research platform and directly communicate with participants. What was great about the responsibility I had was that it gradually increased. At the start of my internships I would be given smaller, more simple tasks which allowed me to settle into the roles and feel confident to move onto other responsibilities. Then later I would be given more high level responsibilities that helped me develop my skills. I was so always told to seek support should I need it and if I felt I had too many responsibilities. It was a very supportive environment that really pushed for me to grow and develop myself.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance across all three of my internships. I received a lot of support from the Earl Careers Coordinator who would have regular check-ins with me to see how I’m getting on, what I’m enjoying, what I’m not enjoying, and if I am benefitting from the work I am doing. The Early Careers Coordinator always made it a point that they want me to get the most out of the internships and if there were any specific skills I would like to develop or specific tasks I wanted to do that they would make that happen. My managers were extremely supportive and welcoming as were other team members. I was treated as a valued member of every team I was on and felt very supported by everyone at the company. People at this company really take an interest in helping others and anytime I needed help with anything I was always supported.
Culture
An extremely inclusive culture where everyone is welcome. This was especially important for me coming into this role having no previous experience working in a business like MO. Everyone was very friendly and supportive.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placements. It was an opportunity for me to grow and learn what it’s like to work for an organisation like MO. The people at MO are all kind and supportive individuals who gave me lots of opportunities to develop my skills and gain a better understanding of the work they do. Eavh internship was unique and a very fun experience.
