    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supporting managers to use the tools available to measure their team's competency levels and encourage growth talk conversations and discuss next steps for development. Implementing a new competency assessment tool to support managers with this which involved both liaising managers to understand what they needed from the tool and supporting implementation by completing various operational tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, Siemens always encouraged me to utilise and grow my skillset and no day was the same. Time management and organisation skills were crucial as well as critical thinking and maintaining an innovative attitude when things didn't go exactly to plan. Siemens is a huge company which provided me the opportunity to substantially develop my communication and networking skills with professionals from countless disciplines.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A huge amount of responsibility! You are treated as an equal from day one and other employees really appreciate and respect the fresh perspective interns can bring in a company where average length of service is high. I was involved in various strategic projects and I felt as though my work was meaningful and was contributing to the performance and culture of the company.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • During my internship, my manager perfectly balanced providing me with space to learn independently whilst ensuring I knew I could to go them with any questions and that no question was a silly one. I had regular growth talk conversations with my manager to ensure I was getting the most out of my internship and discuss areas for development. Other employees were also extremely supportive of me as an intern too.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Siemens
  • Be yourself during the recruitment process! For early career roles the recruiters are primarily assessing if you will be a strong cultural fit and if you have gotten to interview stage you are evidently suitable for the role. Show a strong knowledge of the Siemens core values and demonstrate them during the interview stages and finally, let your personality shine as that is what will make you stand out.
