    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • During my internship I did two rotations: securitised products structuring and fx structuring. In securitised products, I worked on a project aimed to build a credit scoring model for a pool of loans, whereas in fx I was given quant exercises to solve and material to read. I was involved in many other activities such as: taking part to asset-specific lessons, helping the desk, meeting senior people to better understand the business.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I think I have highly increased my networking capabilities, together with problem solving skill and critical thinking. I fell much more confident when I have to present in front of many people and I have understood the importance of communication skills. As for technical skills, I had the opportunity to learn a lot about the two asset classes I rotated in.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During my rotation in securitised products, the project I was assigned is actually a model needed by the desk to price deals. This made me feel. When I moved to fx, the situation was different: before working on projects, it's necessary to have a deep knowledge of the asset class and its peculiarities. They give me responsibility in terms of deciding which topics to learn and how to structure my learning process.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Honestly, I received support from so many people that I can't even mention all of them. This internship has a great mentorship programme and on top of that you get assigned a buddy, one people leader for each rotation. On top of it, you can reach out so many people in the bank and everybody is very keen to meet and help you.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I was not expecting such a positive culture in a bank. Of course there are roles and hierarchy, but everybody, even the most senior ones, are really interested in interns and want the to find the best path. The atmosphere is very collaborative, even between different asset classes.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • If it was possible, I would like to start the programme again. It gave me the opportunity to understand the business, to network with extremely smart and talented people and to start building my network in the financial industry. There were many events hosted by the bank that, in my opinion, were key opportunities to speak with senior people and ask their career advice.
