The Role
Really interesting, hard to adjust from the uni lifestyle though!
I was given interesting and challenging tasks from the word go, and responsibility increased over time.
There was always good guidance along the way, and I had a mentor to help my placement year count towards my IMechE accreditation.
I always had work to do, it helped sort out my organisational skills.
I was given a comfortable level for me - if I needed support it was always there.
I feel like I have learnt more in this year than at uni so far! Definitely skills I will take with me to future jobs.
The Company
I got on well with colleagues, but it was a suitable work enviroment also.
Starting the placement was very easy, Cummins take on many students and the process is well practised.
I attended many training sessions, and I was encouraged to take every opportunity that arose to attend extra training sessions appropriate to my work, and to visit suppliers and customers relating to projects.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Above 25 days holiday
I'd love to come back and work here, the company really look after their employees - I hope they want me back!
The Culture
The students developed their own social activites outside of work, but you are encouraged to spend time with your colleagues and gain experience in a work environment rather than just hide away with the other students.
I moved back home with my parents. Socialising, the area I was in is a pretty cheap place to go and do things.
Not the best night life, but when you're working hard this isn't an issue.
Sports clubes and social clubs are available, but most extra opportunities are organised internally within each department or office (team building exercises, curry nights, etc) - it's a more relaxed enviroment, very friendly colleagues.
