Overview
I was tasked with calling up to 50 hotel partners every day and ensuring that they remain active on Expedia's live site by uploading their rates and availability. I also completed a data analysis project that involved analysing 500 expiring promotions in Italy. I used tools such as Tableau and Excel to conduct a thorough analysis and then I presented my findings to the Market Management team.
Skills
I developed my software proficiency and Excel skills which is extremely useful for any business environment. I also improved my communication skills by calling hotel partners in multiple languages. I created a presentation of which I presented at the end of my internship to a large audience which helped improve my confidence and my presentational skills.
Responsibilities
I was given enough responsibility in the sense that my project was completely my own and it was left up to me to conduct the analysis and present my findings. I had enough support from the Market Management team in London as well as the Market Management team in Italy who guided me throughout my project and gave me useful tips along the way.
Support & Guidance
I recieved lots of support from my graduate mentor who was extremely useful in providing me with tips for the internship and the work I was doing. My manager was also reachable in-person and via the messaging service Slack. I liked that I was also able to reach out to people in the organisation and seek support whenever I wanted.
Culture
I enjoyed working in the London office as everyone there was very friendly and welcoming. I was grateful to have been part of such a lovely community and I never felt afraid to go up to someone and speak to them.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship. I was working with a lovely group of likeminded people and I felt that I learnt a lot about Expedia, the Commercial team, and also myself and the expectations that I now have for a future career.
Yes
I would advise others to not be afraid to seek help as it is extremely important for one's personal and professional development. Also, it is important to be yourself as that is the only way you will meet likeminded people and enjoy your work.
